Courses→Stabilisation and emotional safety
Day one · Live online · January 2027 (date to be confirmed)

Stabilisation and emotional safety: what changes in the therapy when the control has not ended.

A one-day course for therapists and counsellors working with clients who have left a controlling relationship and are still living with it through court, contact and co-parenting.

Most trauma training assumes the threat is over. For many of your clients it is not. They leave the session regulated and are destabilised again by a message, a handover or a solicitor's letter. This day gives you a way to recognise where a client is in recovery and to change what you do in the room to match.

  • 61%of women with PTSD have experienced domestic abuse as adults1
  • Nearly halfof women with depression have, too (46%)1
  • 2.5×the risk of depression; 7× the risk of PTSD (women, compared with women without those diagnoses)1

Your clients may have come for anxiety, low mood or "a difficult separation". Many are living with control that no one has named.

Who can book

  • Therapists, counsellors and psychologists who hold current membership of, or registration with, one of: BACP, UKCP, BPS or HCPC.

This is a requirement, not a guide. If you do not hold one of these, this day is not open to you. Coaches and family law professionals have their own routes.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the day you will be able to

  • Recognise when post-separation control is still active, and why it is so often missed
  • Explain why the work stalls when processing starts before the client is safe enough for it
  • Use the CARE framework (Check-in, Anchor, Reflect, Empower) with a client under active control
  • Stabilise a client when contact, court or co-parenting keeps disrupting the work
  • Hold boundaries in the work, and know the limits of your role
